The highly anticipated F/W 2015 season of Vancouver Fashion Week premiered last Monday on March 16th. I had never been to a VFW event before, so I had no idea of what to expect, but was delightfully surprised by the beautiful collections curated by Vancouver’s hottest local designers! I was shocked by the enormous amount of talent I witnessed at the event, not only by the designers, but also from the models, makeup artists, and of course the beautifully dressed attendees! I attended the event by myself, but was lucky enough to spot my wonderful friend Danielle while I was there. We had a great time chatting about the collections as the models strutted down the runway.
There were a couple looks that really stood out to me during the show that night. The first one was a bohemian inspired look that included a black lace bandeau paired underneath a orangey/brown low hanging mini dress. Topping off the look was a tribal patterned blanket scarf, and suede ankle booties with grey socks peeping out underneath. This look reminded me of the colours you might see in Vancouver during the fall season and is very wearable for an evening out with friends or even as a day look. I especially adored the layered necklaces, which added a fun touch to the ensemble. I definitely think MK & Ashley would approve!
The second look I loved was darker and more winter-y. It reminded me of something you might see in a dystopian novel. Something Tris Prior might wear in the dauntless faction of the Divergent series? I think it goes perfectly with the au natural makeup look and messy side parted hair. I definitely got the vibe that the girl who will be wearing this outfit is not one to mess with! However, it is also so cool and effortless. The ribbed turtleneck feature is a nice touch and I like how even though the outfit is all-black, it still looks interesting because of the elegant mixture of layering and textures.
Lastly, I couldn’t write this article without a great menswear look to top things off! Immediately after I came across this outfit I sent a picture of it to my friend, and he fell in love with the impeccable tailoring of the coat, exclaiming “who is it by?!” I think the scarf is a great layering piece and also breaks up the darker colour scheme. The shoes are multi toned and look very GQ. The coat however is obviously the focal point of the look and I love the choice of navy over black because it’s just as easy to pair, but is a bit more interesting. Long duster coats are going to be very chic for this coming up fall/winter season and I think this one is a classic and perfect for any occasion.
So those were my favourite looks from the VFW opening gala. I will be creating more posts with reviews of specific designers, so stay tuned for those. Overall I was extremely impressed by VFW this year and can’t wait to attend their upcoming seasons!
