Summer is almost here, which means it’s time for a wave of new trends. Nowadays trends sometimes seem to last for less than a day, so it’s very hard to keep up. I personally find trends exhausting and don’t buy into them as much as I used to, but I think it’s important to know what’s happening in the world. Just like the importance of knowing how many mobile phones Paris Hilton owns. Can someone please tell me if she is currently an iPhone or Blackberry user? Thx.
So in between researching memes from The Simple Life and videos of Gigi Hadid with Zayn Malik I took some precious time out of my day to break down some of the most noteworthy trends. So here ya go….
ME BREAKING IT DOWN 4 U:
PS: the titles have a link embedded in them, so click on it to shop the pieces suggested below 🙂
1) Pins & Patches
Let’s be honest, your outfits are probably boring and overrated. So what better to make things more interesting than by wearing a spicy, meme-like remark in the form of a small accessory? Here are some of my favs:
2) Oversized & Flowy Stuff
If you don’t look like Gigi Hadid on the cover of Sports Illustrated, then don’t worry girl we got you covered! Literally, now you can just COVER yourself in drapey fabric and people will think you look like a 10/10.
Here are some of my favs:
3) Granny Shoes
During the Era of La Belle Époque, otherwise known as the Victorian Era, people wore these slipper type things with a block heel and rounded toe piece. There was probably a reason for this, but now it’s just fun and super trendy to copy our great, great ancestors.
Here’s how to do it:
4) Raw Hems
If you want to look like somebody stopped sewing your garment partway through and proceeded to stomp on the hem then this trend is for you! But in all seriousness I actually really like this trend. If you don’t want to spend $400 on reworked “vintage” Levi’s, just go to the men’s section at Value Village and cut off the bottom part of your jeans with some fabric scissors. Afterwards, just run those babies through the wash a couple times and voila! People will probably ask where you got your “incredible” jeans from and you can brag about how you’re a DIY goddess.
My Favs (for either purchase or DIY inspiration):
5) Crop Top Dress Shirts
Dress shirts scream office sophistication and crop tops scream night out with the girls. To combine these two looks so you can be classy, but also a tad sassy, just take some inspo from these looks:
6) Geometric Patterns & Prints
What better way to say, “I make visually appealing, instagram-worthy art with no actual meaning behind it” than by wearing a shirt featuring some random shapes. Be sure to post a selfie with the Valencia filter overtop, or it probably didn’t happen.
7) Vintage Anything
Blah blah blah vintage this vintage that. People used to actually shop at vintage stores because you can find super nice things for better prices, and because of the natural wear, and out of good memories and respect for past time periods. But now everyone and their dog is going vintage shopping because it’s #trendy. “You must feel so cool in that vintage Kimono, huh Stacey?!”
Here are my fav spots to go vintage shopping in Vancouver:
https://www.valuevillage.com (I usually go to the East Hastings location)
I really like mules but I’m still confused on how your feet don’t fall out?! I’ll get back to you once I’ve figured it out. B.R.B.
Chokers have been trendy for a while now. Those little braided wirey ones can be worn with almost anything, but now you should probably shop for ones that look like they came out of an S&M scene from 50 Shades of Grey. Why? Cause it’s #trendy that’s why! Gees, get with the program Stacey.
This is my favourite trend because it’s actually practical. Whenever I wear a purse I feel like I’m debilitated. It’s like having a useless, heavy third arm attached to your side that you have to drag with you everywhere you go. Sorry ladies, time to sell your LV speedy 35’s on Ebay. Perhaps you can use a portion of the money you make to buy yourself a Fjallraven Kanken backpack. It’s a Scandinavian brand, super #trendy trust me.
