Prabal Gurang – F/W 14
Prabal Gurang’s collections are always highly anticipated at NYFW, and after last season’s sleek modern 1950s revival collection we were all keen to see where Gurang would take us this time. The answer: Mustang, a Himalayan territory wedged between Nepal and Tibet that was off-limits to outsiders until 1991.
Clearly inspired by the fabrics and colours of his native homeland, there were clear references to the orange robes worn by monks local to the area as well as layered thick knits and furs adorned by the local people in the colder months.
Parts of the collection had an almost patchwork quality to them whilst maintaining a sense of clean modernity, which is indicative of Gurang’s style.
Outwear came in the shape of wraps and cape shouldered coats.
But the really breath taking moments came in the gown segment. It is a real toss up for me which is my favourite, but I think I have to plump for the red wrap gown with crystal detailing and open midriff – it really did take my breath away.
