Karolyn Pho NYFW
By Dominique Hanke
Karolyn Pho is not just a designer, but also a story teller. She has always had a strong narrative through her collections and this collection is no different .This season, the main character in her story is a “vagabond” – a traveller. Pho takes us with her on her character’s journey as she “meanders through castles in the air, traipses between realities and crosses unknown borders. She is a nomad, a traveller, lost within her own self-perception.”
The palette for the collection is inspired by the Med-Deco architecture of Miami.
As with seasons past there is an underlying vein of masculinity running throughout Pho’s collection. This is created in part by the beautiful, strong, clean lines Pho is known for, but this collection played with the distinction of masculine vs. feminine more through the use of soft, malleable fabrics and delicate tones.
There was a lot to love in this collection, from the vibrant colours to the beautiful detailing. I was a huge fan of the iridescent sequins, but my personal favourite pieces were the amazing clutches. These textural accessories were stunning whilst incredibly practical.
Congratulations to Pho on another successful season. We can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next.
