Confession number one
When I was modelling professionally, I didn’t always enjoy it; in fact, I disliked it most of the time. Contrary to popular belief, modelling isn’t glamorous unless you’re Coco Rocha or Freja Beha OR you’re working in an established market. If I wasn’t working in emerging markets (Beijing, Istanbul), I was in Vancouver where models aren’t expected to be paid for their time or efforts.
Having said that, modelling afforded me travelling opportunities and at times could be a creative release (and lets face it, an ego boost). Those moments when it’s just you and the photographer and you feel comfortable enough to let go are the moments when art is created.
