Alexander Wang | Pre-Fall 2016

Fresh off his label’s 10-year anniversary and free from his former role at Balenciaga,Alexander Wang’s Pre-Fall ’16 collection was as much a study of his past hits as it was a reflection on where the brand stands today. In keeping with the vibe of its Spring ’16 collection, this season’s lineup delivered pieces one could easily imagine Wang and his model gang wearing on the streets of New York. To start, puffy bomber jackets were embellished with grommets and a surf-inspired palm tree design, while leopard print and classic black leather moto jackets were lengthened to create boyish Crombie styles. Pre-Fall also saw Wang’s woman embrace a slightly move feminine aesthetic with the addition of below-the-knee A-line skirts trimmed with rows of grommets, double-split pencil skirts and a collarless tweed blazer finished with a flouncy tweed peplum on the back. However, even Wang’s so-called ladies had their naughty side, as seen with an argyle sweater that had been treated to intarsias of pole dancers.

As for accessories, Wang marked the season with the introduction of a new handbag range, the Attica collection, consisting of four key styles, including a streamlined crossbody and a surprisingly chic fanny pack.  On the feet, studded platform sandals tied up around the ankle, while a similar vinyl peep-toe style was paired with stripped stockings. Argyle knit beanies, metal badge pins and double leather belts with silver buckle and chain detailing then rounded out the looks, providing the final punctuation on a collection of tough-luxe hits.
