Actress Rukiya Bernard talks style with AF.

SHOOTING WITH DAVID NAMAN

Shooting with David Naman was so much fun.  He is really creative with lighting and had all kinds of walls and rigs set up to play with. Stuff that’s normally done in post production he was creating on the spot. It was fascinating and inspiring to watch him manipulate the light and shadow – he’d show me the images and it would inspire me to bring out a different emotion and we ended up having this back and forth modulating relationship as he played around with the lighting.

PERSONAL STYLE

I aim for my personal style to always reflect me and how I’m feeling. This is easy on the majority of days but if I’m having a crappy day – I try to make it the ready to wear runway version. As a mom of two under fivers, I have a firm rule – I won’t leave the house if I don’t like the way I look. When it comes to my day to day style, comfort is first followed very closely by trendy, funky youthful style. An average outfit might be my ripped boyfriend jeans from Zara, Jeffery Campbell booties, a vintage top scored at Value Village, gold hoop earrings and my Michael Kors gold watch.

RED CARPET STYLE

As for my red carpet style – well that runs the gamut. I tend to love classic colours – black, white, metallics and some bright colours. If there is some architectural or embroidery detail in the dress – count me in. I love for my red carpet outfits to be a kind of work of art in and of itself.
